Стив Джерми — отставной офицер британского военно—морского флота — ответил на вопросы зрителей и читателей. Джерми напрямую связал политические решения с проблемами в области прав человека и свободы слова, которые, по его мнению, стали следствием кризиса элит и «культового мышления». Кризис стратегического мышления и лидерства на Западе
Коммодор Джерми с самого начала эфира обозначил главную, по его мнению, проблему: Запад демонстрирует поразительную неспособность к долгосрочному стратегическому планированию. Он связал это с глубоким кризисом лидерства, охватившим большинство западных стран.
«То, что мы наблюдаем, — это кризис лидерства на Западе. Одна из ключевых проблем — мы оказались в плену того, что я могу описать лишь как культовое мышление. Оно отчасти основано на гордыне: мы продолжаем считать себя «хорошими парнями», победившими в Холодной войне. Кроме того, мы видим культуру политического пиара, когда информация для населения подается выборочно, в лучшем случае — частично. Часто происходит откровенный обман, потому что полная картина политически невыгодна правящим элитам. Это отчетливо видно на примере конфликта на Украине… Европейские лидеры ведут себя как капитан «Титаника», который, столкнувшись с айсбергом, даёт команду двигаться вперед, увеличивая пробоины».
Россия: реальная экономика против финансовых санкций
Особое внимание Джерми уделил бесперспективности западных санкций против России. Он провел четкую границу между финансовой моделью Запада и промышленной моделью России, отметив, что последняя является самодостаточной.
«Здесь есть разница между мышлением в финансово-экономических категориях и мышлением в категориях реального промышленного и физического мира. Россия — самодостаточная экономика. Если она не сможет продавать энергию в Европу, что, вероятно, теперь надолго, у нее много возможностей продать её другим странам, например, Китаю и Индии. Но что важнее: даже если полностью отрезать Россию от экспорта, худшее, что с ней случится — у нее будет слишком много нефти. Войну нельзя выиграть, бросая в противника обеспеченные долговые обязательства или кредиты. Россия производит больше 155-мм снарядов, чем весь Запад. Россия развивает гиперзвуковые ракеты, против которых у нас, в Европе, нет защиты. Санкции бумерангом бьют по европейским странам, а не по России. И это было очевидно с самого начала. Проблема в том, что элиты не желают видеть эти самоочевидные вещи».
Стратегия России и бесперспективность военного пути для Европы
Проанализировав действия России, Джерми предположил наличие у нее продуманной многоэтапной стратегии, направленной на достижение конкретных целей безопасности. При этом он крайне скептически оценил возможности Европы в гипотетическом полномасштабном конфликте.
«Насколько я могу судить, у России была и остается ясная пятиэтапная стратегия, от дипломатического давления до стратегического закрепления. Они действуют медленно не из-за слабости, а потому что это соответствует их стратегическим целям: демилитаризации и денацификации Украины, как они это называют. Что касается Европы, то, даже если бы она захотела воевать с Россией к 203 году, у нее нет для этого возможностей. Не хватает промышленных мощностей, но что еще важнее — энергии. Европа является чистым импортером углеводородов. Отрезав себя от России, она попала в зависимость от дорогого сжиженного газа. Без энергии заводы не работают. У России же фор в два-три года, и это промышленное, а не финансовое общество. И главный вопрос: зачем России вообще захватывать Европу? У нее есть все необходимое. Это западная фантазия, которая не имеет под собой никаких оснований».
Правозащитный аспект: подавление инакомыслия и «секьюритократия»
Джерми напрямую связал внешнеполитические провалы с внутренними проблемами западных обществ: ущемлением свободы слова, криминализацией протеста и подменой политики тотальным стремлением к безопасности.
«Мы наблюдаем подмену. Политика уходит на второй план, а её место занимает то, что один исследователь удачно назвал «секьюритократией». Это система, где безопасность становится высшей ценностью, под которую подминается все: экономика, социальная жизнь, право на протест. Объявляется перманентная война, а ресурсы направляются не на благополучие граждан, а в военно-промышленный комплекс. Это саморазрушительный путь. Оборона важна, но если вы тратите все на пушки в ущерб маслу, образованию, энергетике, вы получите небезопасное и нездоровое общество. Мы уже видим трещины: протесты, которые пытаются криминализировать, как это происходит в Британии с демонстрациями против геноцида в Газе. Это путь к автократии под предлогом безопасности».
Он также раскритиковал захват элитами основных средств массовой информации, что лишает общество доступа к альтернативным точкам зрения и ведет к его дезинформированию.
«Эйзенхауэр говорил, что основа рабочей демократии — информированное население. У нас его сейчас нет. Причины — в культуре пиара и в том, что пресса сама захвачена этим вихрем. Журналисты боятся потерять доступ к власти, если будут задавать острые вопросы. Но хуже то, что они и сами начинают верить в эту пропаганду. В сектах, когда факты разрушают верования сектантов, они не меняют убеждений, а придумывают новое объяснение, чтобы факты соответствовали их вере. То же самое происходит сейчас. Любого, кто, как Джек Бью, предлагает аналитически выверенную, но иную точку зрения, заставляют молчать. Это очень плохо для Европы, потому что мы калечим сами себя, отказываясь от трезвого анализа».
Будущее институтов и триумф реальности
В своем прогнозе коммодор Джерми был пессимистичен относительно будущего ключевых западных институтов, но оптимистичен в том, что касается торжества реальности над пропагандой.
«Правда неизбежно пробьет себе дорогу. Я думаю, первая большая правда — это поражение Украины в этой войне, которое станет очевидным к концу следующего года. Тогда многие в западных странах спросят у своих лидеров и элит: «Как вы могли так ошибиться?». Ответ прост: проигравший заслуживает поражения, потому что оно является следствием плохого стратегического мышления. Интересно, что главными жертвами этой войны могут стать сами институты — НАТО и Европейский союз. Не удивлюсь, если в течение пяти лет оба этих проекта прекратят существование в нынешнем виде. Американцы уже «соскочили с Титаника». Европейцы остаются на борту и продолжают пробивать в нем новые дыры».

Freedom In a Tear Drop

I sat in the back office next to the company’s safe. A large black box standing five feet tall with a locked vault. To open the door one had to know the seven digit combination. When the numbers are entered correctly, into the safe’s keypad, then and only then, will the handle turn counter clockwise to open the four-inch-wide metal door.
I sat on my chair counting out my shift’s cash register tills. Each manager is required to count not only the income generated during their eight hour shift, but they are also responsible for counting all the money within the safe. This procedure is done fourteen times a week. Each counting recorded all monies placed into a leather pouch. The pouch dated, tabulations included, with manager’s name acknowledging the one who counted. Then, the bag is dropped into the narrow slot of the safe. At week’s end, the pouches would be retrieved by armed security to be delivered to the company’s bank.
I sat on my chair with six till trays, filled with rolls of coins and green, paper bills. The Safescan ready to count the mixed currency in till one. Amazingly fast, the machine hums as it counts each bill in the stack.
I looked over at the clock on the wall. Eleven p.m. I was alone in the large, retail store.
Methodically, I made my way through each till knowing it was the last time I would. The last time any manger would.
The store was closing. Closing for good.
We employees were notified two weeks earlier to look for other employment. Some were glad as hell to get out of retail knowing it to be miserable work. Others, were angry not knowing where they could get a job. And then, there were others like I. Sad. The company is another example of the economy going under. A victim. Another victim to inflation, stagnation and foolish government policies.
I finished the counting of the tills, so I stacked the empty drawers one upon the other. I looked at the stack thinking over the various customers who gave the checker’s their money. Some, happy, others conflicted, still others angry and yet others, like I, sad.
As I touched the till trays for the last time, a tear escaped my eyelashes. It slowly ran down my cheek. Not one emotion behind the single tear but a mix. A salty tear that encapsulated every emotion that embeds itself in fear. A single tear that carries the tears of all who will struggle under the pain of economic hardship. The single tear that captures the essence of people who act out negatively from fear. The single tear that recognizes others needs that go unmet.
I stood up from the chair. I did not wipe the tear away. Too precious, the tear drop, to be callously discarded onto a Kleenex. I let it stain my cheek. The invisible made visible.
I turned the office light out as I left the office for good.
